Jacqueline Felix

My name is Jacqueline Felix, and I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of California Irvine, majoring in mathematics. I decided to continue my studies here at Cal State San Bernardino with the hopes of receiving a Master’s degree in Instructional Design and Technology, an e-Learning certificate, an educational technology certificate, and my teaching credential. After accomplishing my college goals, I would like to pursue a career in teaching mathematics at a secondary school level.

I decided to join the ETEC program because I want to design and develop effective learning programs to help others learn the material they are learning. In addition, I hope to learn e-Learning concepts and skills that will build and strengthen my knowledge of instructional technology that will be beneficial for me as a teacher. As of today, I do not have any professional experience regarding e-Learning course design. My design experience has been developing throughout the years in Instructional Technology by completing projects that require design. From those experiences, I can share that designing and developing an e-Learning course or implementing any technology in education requires patience, time, and dedication. It is not something that comes together without following a process or taking into consideration various factors.

Throughout this program, I have learned the foundations in instructional technology and e-Learning, technology integration, and design models and procedures. However, one of the biggest takeaways from my studies in this program are the differences in utilizing technology and technology integration. I learned that there is more to instructional technology than simply using technology in a classroom. Technology can be a powerful tool when integrated effectively and purposefully. Using it effectively can maximize the learning of students and meet their needs. All in all, I have enjoyed taking courses in e-learning and instructional technology,  and I am excited to see what awaits.

I created this introduction video using PowToon, an animation software, for my ETEC 537 course during the Spring 2016 quarter. The assignment required me to create a 2-3 minute introduction presentation that was creative and innovative. I decided to utilize PowToon because it allowed me to create an animated presentation that was different and brought my story to life. It was my first experience with PowToon, and I enjoyed utilizing this platform so much that I used it for other projects in other courses. I can imagine the many ways PowToon can help me create engaging material for students in the future.
